Elliott Richelson, MD

MEDICAL DIRECTOR

Dr. Richelson received his M.D. degree at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed his residency training in psychiatry at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD. He has treated many patients with eating disorders and co-morbid disorders. He has performed research on drugs affecting eating behaviors while at the Mayo Clinic. At Canopy Cove, Dr. Richelson focuses on research around pharmacologic treatments for eating disorders.

He is a board-certified psychiatrist with expertise in clinical and basic neuropsychopharmacology. In 2014 he retired from Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research as the Donald and Lucy Dayton Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology and in the Department of Pharmacology. Dr. Richelson has published over 200 original research articles and more than 130 review articles in basic science and in clinical medical journals.

He has received numerous awards and professional recognitions, including being listed in Best Doctors in America since 2003; and being a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He is past president and past treasurer of the Society of Biological Psychiatry. Presently, Dr. Richelson applies his expertise in neuropsychopharmacology exclusively to patient care, with a focus on patients with mood, anxiety, and thought disorders.
